Liver Disease Background

According to the “Hong Kong Viral Hepatitis Action Plan 2020-2024”, in Hong Kong, it is estimated that about 540,000 people are infected with chronic hepatitis B and 22,000 people are infected with chronic hepatitis C. Chronic hepatitis infection often remains asymptomatic for many years until it develops into cirrhosis and liver cancer, thus missing the best time to seek and receive treatment in a timely manner.

The LiverCare Program

Background

Professor Seto, Wai Kay Walter: “According to statistics from the Global Cancer Observatory, liver cancer ranks second in cancer mortality in East Asia in 2020. By 2040, the number of liver cancer patients in the Asia-Pacific region will exceed 995,000.” There is still a long way to go to eliminate HBV. Timely HBV screening can effectively reduce liver-related mortality. Among them,  Liverscan, as the most ideal solution for liver fibrosis screening, has the characteristics of immediate care, painless and non-invasive,accurate and portable, which can effectively lower the threshold for treatment and effectively control the risk of liver disease. It has diversified application scenarios and can provide early screening of liver disease for various institutions and patients.”

Liverscan was born

Professor Zheng Yongping: “According to relevant literature, “27% of Hong Kong adults are affected by NAFLD, and 61% of obese subjects suffer from NAFLD. In this context, in order to solve this serious social problem, the palm-sized Liverscan with integrated intelligent algorithms was born. We hope to reduce hospital costs and shorten patient testing time through Liverscan, while greatly improving the accuracy of testing, so that liver bomb testing and screening procedures can enter the community and be applied in more scenarios, so that liver assessment can be truly popularized.”
